Everything Matters, but It Doesn’t Matter
It doesn’t matter what we do, but it matters very much.
It’s like the sound of the falling tree — any rabbit knows to bolt, even if the moon can’t overhear.
Mattering, like everything else, has its places and times. Nothing is everywhere forever.
This is why, when we are grieving, we are as unconcerned with Jupiter’s giant red hurricane as it is with us.
Let mattering be where it is. Let’s not demand that it be where it shouldn’t. Let us attend to it. Be our part in it.
I’m cooking some beans for us. Let the stars be stars.
